I've been busy and haven't taken the time to update the site in awhile. Dixie Leigh is 19 months old now and we stay busy chasing her around the house and listening to her talk non-stop. Everything is going good and I'm staying busy with my business, Benchmark Computer & Tech Support. If you have any computer problems or need help or advice purchasing a new computer, feel free to give me a call at the number at the top of my Benchmark website. (Just click the link above)

Everything is going good in Appleby but the drought we are in is really taking a toll on everything green...or everything that is supposed to be green. The whole state is in a dire situation and there is no relief expected soon. We occasionally get that rare and unexpected storm that builds up and delivers a little moisture but they are scattered and few and far between. The road construction through Appleby finally seems to be about done. The highway crew is gone and another crew is finishing up the ditches, trying in vain to get some grass to grow on the dry dusty shoulders of the road. The City of Appleby recently installed street lights down through city, which has been a really nice improvement! Other than that, all seems pretty quiet here, which is a good thing.

Sort of random but if anyone reading this has, or knows someone who has, any old photos of Appleby, please let me know. I would LOVE to get a copy of them for my website and to preserve for the history of Appleby. I've had no luck in finding any of these photos or old documents over the years.

Not much else happening, I just figured I'd post an update. I hope everyone is having a great summer.

Christmas 2010

It's hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone again! It's been a long time since I posted to my website but I guess chasing around a now 14 month old has kept us pretty busy. It's hard to imagine it's been over a year since Dixie Leigh was born, but time flies and I know it will only fly faster in the years to come. We had a great Christmas and I wish it wasn't over. Dixie Leigh had a great Christmas and I know next year will be even better as she understands Santa more and the real meaning of Christmas. I need to post more recent photos of her but here is a couple family photos we took a few days before Christmas.

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and I hope you have an excellent New Year.

I'm really enjoying it but I think Part 1 was better, because Part 2 seems to be skimming over alot of stuff. However I do have a beef....I am not a fan of all the "celebrity" commentary that is sprinkled in the show. Most of it is ok but there have been a few comments that irked me. One in particular was Sheryl Crow's comment, "There is still, in some areas of America, a great pride in being Southern and holding true to the original Southern attitude. I think our clinging to the idea that slavery is a right and just way of life, you know it is a dark spot in our history." Well I totally agree that slavery is a dark spot in our history. However, that broad statement is VERY condescending and in my opinion, paints those of us who are proud to be Southern, as a bunch of racists who wish slavery was still legal. Ugh!

I could understand if these comments were made in passing and maybe taken out of context or not verbalized correctly, but this is a pre-taped, highly edited documentary; those comments are no accident. I see no reason to bring those sorts of biased, uneducated opinions into a documentary which is supposed to educate us on our true history. I’ve also heard, not mention as of yet, about state’s rights. Those of us who know history, will argue that issue was VERY pivotal in the war between the states.
I'm not really surprised that Sheryl Crow and some of the other "celebrities" aren't too fond of us "simpleton Southerners" but I take her comments as an insult and I think the History Channel could have done a better job of leaving those types of comments out of the series and fill the gap with more real history.

Support the Conservative Movement, Join the Heritage Foundation Today!

Merry Christmas

Just a note to say Merry Christmas to all. This is absolutely my favorite time of year. I really hate to see the holidays come to an end. This will be a really special Christmas for us since it will be Dixie Leigh's first. I hope you all have a great Christmas and we all take the time to remember the real reason for season.

If you've visted my website before you'll notice things look different. I've moved hosts and redesigned my whole site. I think I'm going to like the new setup because it's so much easier to add content and make changes. If you've never visited my site before....well glad you stopped by.

So let's clear a few things up....no, this isn't the website of a major Texas city but instead just my personal website. In case you are wondering if Appleby is even a real place, yes it is. Appleby is a small town located in the Piney Woods of Deep East Texas in Nacogdoches County. It is a tiny place now but long ago Appleby was a booming railroad town. Check out the link titled Appleby History in the menu on the left for more information.

This website is dedicated to Appleby, as well as alot of the things I enjoy, including hunting, fishing, poker, photography, and technology. Take a look around and see if you find anything that peaks your interest. There is a link on the right side of the page titled "Contact Us", feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions or comments.
